2010 TRIUMPH LIVE SUCCESS

Over 10,000 motorcycle and music fans from around the world converged on Mallory Park on September 18 as Triumph celebrated 20 years of production at its Hinckley plant with the Triumph Live festival.

There was plenty to see and do on and around the track, with the event supported by Triumph partners such as Arrow, Ohlins, Ace Cafe and various race teams. The Street Triple R guest race provided truly stunning action, with world supersport rider Chaz Davies winning. In the Triumph Triple Challenge event wins were shared between Chris Northover and Phillip Atkinson.

Triumph stunt riders Kevin Carmichael and Paul Hanks, entertained the crowds with a spectacular display of wheelies and tricks, while 130 lucky visitors had an opportunity to ride Triumph’s Daytona 675 around the Mallory Park circuit.

Displays of Triumphs for the past 20 years proved one of the most popular draws of the day. A regular stream of buses made the journey from Mallory Park to nearby Hinckley, where almost 4000 Triumph owners saw the state-of-the-art facilities where new Triumphs are brought to life.

In the evening, Burning Shapes, Diego, The Dunwell Brothers Band and Cats & Criminals rocked the crowd before handing over to Britain’s hottest young band, Mumford & Sons – who lived up to their title as ‘Festival Band of the Year’ with a storming display.

The evening was brought to a spectacular close by iconic British rock band, and Triumph enthusiasts, The Stranglers, who cranked out renditions of their favourite songs late into the night.

CHAZ DAVIES TAKES FOURTH AT SILVERSTONE

Triumph’s Chaz Davies was just one second off scoring a home podium in yesterday’s Supersport World Championship round at Silverstone.

The Welshman improved on his ninth place qualifying to challenge for a podium position in the early laps, only to accidentally hit the speed limiter button designed to restrict speed in pitlane. Having lost contact with the leaders, Chaz worked diligently to recover to fourth, just behind third-placed Gino Rea.

Chaz’s team-mates Matthieu Lagrive and David Salom also qualified on the third row and were able to make up positions to finish seventh and eighth, with Italian rider Vittorio Iannuzzo taking 14th on a fourth Triumph.

Triumphs also featured in the thrilling ParkinGO European Series race, with John Simpson rounding out the day with a win in the national superstock 600 race on a Daytona 675. This Superstock 600 round was a re-run to catch up with the 3rd round at Oulton Park which had been cancelled.

John was the fastest rider on his Daytona 675 in free practice, and also set the fastest lap of 2’14.475 setting a new lap record at the new Silverstone Arena GP track.

STREET TRIPLE TRIUMPHS AT THE ACE CAFE’S STREETFIGHTER AND STUNT FESTIVAL

The Ace Cafe’s Streetfighter and Stunt Festival, undoubtedly the most exciting event on the 2010 streetfighter diary, was held at Wembley last weekend.

New Lings Triumph signed rider, Paul “Hanksy” Hanks, following up his first outing on the Lings Bolddog Triumph Street Triple R at the Isle of Man TT, by blowing away the opposition. After finishing first in the longest stoppie competition, Paul went on to qualify in second place in the freestyle competition.

French rider Julien Welsch, also on a Triumph Street Triple R, took second place in the longest stoppies. It was in fact Hanksy that set the Triumph trend a few months ago. Julien had previously contacted Paul about using the Triumph Street Triple as a stunt bike and Paul helped Julien set the Street Triple up for stunting.

In the Final, Paul finished top Brit, starting his run as a clear International leader ahead of all the International competitors, however after a slip during a technical trick, this eventually pushed him third overall in the International standings behind the two French riders, but still finishing the top Brit. Julien proudly finished with his first podium and the highest scoring Triumph rider!

The new Street Triple R has created so much interest, and now seems to be the stunt bike to have. Paul has been inundated with riders, the press and the general public even as far away as the states asking him about his bike.

Paul’s next outing on the Triumph is at Elvington Airfield this weekend to compete in the second round of the UK championship series where he is currently leading, and Julien is returning home to practice hard before travelling to Poland next week to take part in a competition there

KARL HARRIS SIGNS FOR OXFORD TAG TRIUMPH

Karl Harris, the 30-year-old from Sheffield, has signed for Rob Winfield’s Triumph Supersport team following a difficult start to the year campaigning an uncompetitive machine in the Metzeler National Superstock Championship.

Looking as fit and as motivated as ever before, Harris brings to the team a wealth of experience in the Supersport class with a proven pedigree and the confidence that he can start bringing in the results that both he and the Triumph Daytona 675 are capable of.

Karl will be reunited with two of his former race technicians, namely Lee Machin and Carl Buckle who worked alongside Harris during his time with the Hydrex Honda Superbike team.

Karl will test the bike over the next couple of weeks as the team focus on getting the triple-champion accustomed to the Triumph Daytona’s unique engine and chassis character.

TRIUMPH SUPPORT HELP FOR HEROES ROUND BRITAIN FUND RAISING TOUR

On Thursday 17th June, a team of Navy bikers from 800 Naval Air Squadron, based at RAF Cottesmore in Rutland set out on the journey of a lifetime riding 4 Triumph motorcycles loaned to them by our UK subsidiary office.
The Lands End to John O Groat’s route has been tried and tested so something a bit out of the ordinary was required. Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Phil ‘Frog’ Spencer came up with the idea of a ride that covered the eight points of the compass by visiting the UK military establishments of all 3 services, from RAF Lossiemouth in the North to Portsmouth Dockyard in the South, and so the “Point to Point” Charity Motorcycle ride was born.

CPO Spencer then contacted Triumph Motorcycles on the recommendation of RIDE magazine to request both the loan of the bikes and Triumph dealer support along the way. The HFH team managed to visit most Triumph dealerships on route to “rattle the H4H buckets” and from a practical point of view to get the bikes checked over.

The route itself covered 3463 miles and as well as the military bases they also made important stops at the 2 biggest beneficiaries of the Help for Heroes Charity, Selly Oaks and Headley Court Hospitals.
The team is as follows, headed by CPO Phil “Frog” Spencer also consisted of:

CPO Tony Fisher
PO Paul Fitzjohn
PO Dave Robson
LAET Craig Gilbert
LAET Stephen Church
LAET Wayne Drake
AET DOM Fraser-Shaw
AET Mark Franklin
SAC Adam Fletcher (Team photographer and blogger)

On returning the bikes to the Hinckley factory today CPO Spencer thanked Triumph for their generous support and informed us that over £10,000 has been collected over the past 2 weeks
